The Women’s Cycling Development Initiative started as a project to address the abject lack of opportunities for young female cyclists in Australia.
Not necessarily at the highest levels of the sport, where there is reasonable funding and support, but at the grassroots level, where there are limited opportunities for talented athletes, who may not fit the standard performance mould, to compete and learn in a positive team environment.
The team aims to provide this environment for all athletes, aiming to develop them not just as riders, but as human beings, prepared to take on whatever journey they choose.
The Women’s Cycling Development Initiative is also about creating ambassadors for the sport and inspiring the next generation of female cyclists – creating a team that young riders see as a future goal and something to aspire to.
