ProVelo Super League (PSL) is excited to announce the inclusion of the Spirit of Tasmania Cycling Tour in the inaugural season of the league which will be held from 21st to 23rd February 2025 across Northern Tasmania.

The Tour of Tasmania has been held in various forms since its inception in 1930, evolving into its current format, with the official introduction of the women's edition in 2018, helping build and develop female racing within the Australian cycling community. The event will continue to be one of Australia's most prestigious cycling tours, renowned for its rich history of launching the nation's top young riders into international competition.

PSL Co-Founder Matt Wilson stated, “ProVelo Super League are honoured to have Tour of Tasmania included in the inaugural ProVelo Super League season. As one of the oldest and most important races in Australia, it is an event steeped in history. To have the Tour of Tasmania as part of the PSL is a great privilege, we are excited to race in Tasmania.”

Spirit of Tasmania Tour Race Director Sofia Tsamassiros stated, “We are excited to be joining the new ProVelo Super League to deliver the 2025 event as well as increasing our women’s race days to be in line with that of the men.   The introduction of the Women’s Stage Race in 2018 elevated the event to a new level, underpinning the growth of professional female racing within the Australian cycling community,” Ms Tsamassiros said.

The 2025 Spirit of Tasmania Cycling Tour will introduce exciting new routes, a new localised event hub and bringing more community events and engagement in and around the tour itself.

The Spirit of Tasmania Cycling Tour is one of, if not the, most important multi-stage race on the Australian cycling calendar,” Ms Tsamassiros said.

“It is the tour that is the most equivalent to European racing within Australia, and as such is an important one for those wanting to step onto the international circuit. With previous winners such as Cadel Evans and Richie Porte, it is no wonder the tour has this prestige. Our goal is to bring the tour more within the public eye!”

Ms Tsamassiros said there will be four new stages for the 2025 Tour, “We are also moving our Race Hub into one centralised location, in Devonport for the next two years.”
