SBS Women | Harbour City GP Stage 1 Criterium Results

Sophie Marr has taken a stunning win off another long range sprint in front of an excited crowd at the Sydney Motorsport Park circuit for Stage 1 of the Harbour City GP.
The opening of the race saw a strong headwind largely neutralise the bunch along the climb from the start/finish line but that did not discourage Kirsty Watts (Meridian Blue p/b 99 Bikes) going on the attack.
The Praties Cycling Team, Butterfields Ziptrak Racing and Meridian Blue p/b 99 Bikes were all active at the front of the race, on patrol for their sprinters Sophie Marr, Odette Lynch and Keely Bennett respectively.
Coming into the bell lap, it was Keely Bennett who appeared to launch very early, the crowd speculating if she was trying a last lap flyer. It was only when she put her hands in the air that it became clear she had sprinted a lap early.
Her Meridian Blue team rallied but she was unable to back up in the finale. Praties had a strong lead-out for Marr, who launched early, was challenged by Lynch, but managed to hold steady and took a narrow win.
