Media Release: U23 Stagiaire Contracts for League Winners
ProVelo Super League’s Gerry Ryan announces U23 Stagiaire Contracts for League winners to propel Australian cyclists to the UCI WorldTour
The winners of the ProVelo Super League will receive stagiaire contracts with Australian UCI WorldTour outfits Team Jayco AlUla and Liv Jayco AlUla, in a deal that is one of the first of its kind in the sport of cycling.
Gerry Ryan, team owner of GreenEDGE Cycling (Team Jayco AlUla and Liv AlUla Jayco Cycling Teams) and Director of the ProVelo Super League (PSL), has announced the PSL U23 men’s and women’s winner will receive Stagiaire (trainee) positions with Team Jayco AlUla and Liv AlUla Jayco teams. The announcement underscores Ryan’s dedication to the sport in Australia, and his ongoing investment in the development of young Australian riders.
The U23 men’s series winner will join Team Jayco AlUla WorldTour team as a stagiaire from 1 August 2025, while the women’s U23 series winner will secure a spot on the Liv AlUla Jayco Development team for the entirety of the 2026 season.
Established to nurture and elevate young cycling talent in Australia, the inaugural ProVelo Super League season will commence in January 2025 and comprise events in SA, Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland. The stagiaire contracts cement the PSL’s promise to offer a genuine pathway for young Australian cyclists between grassroots cycling in Australia to the professional ranks in Europe.
Matt Wilson, Co-Founder of ProVelo Super League said, “This stagiaire announcement further underpins Gerry Ryan’s incredible cycling legacy, highlighting the significant investment he has made in the sport over the past 30 years. The pathway from grassroots cycling, to PSL, onto a stagiaire position in a WorldTour team highlights both Gerry’s and the PSL’s shared vision for the sport of cycling in this country. The pathway for Australian riders is a big part of the PSL vision, the ability to get athletes to Europe and the WorldTour is a fantastic link that should inspire the next generation of Australian riders.”
ProVelo Super League ambassador, Mitch Docker highlighted the considerable difficulties associated with transitioning from Australian racing to the European circuit, “The transition to international racing, especially in Europe, is incredibly challenging. The level of competition is exceptionally high, and the cultural differences along with unfamiliar racing styles, almost broke me in my first few years overseas.”
ProVelo Super League ambassador Tiffany Cromwell said, “Gerry Ryan’s long-standing support for the sport has benefited almost all Australian cyclists, including myself. His generosity in growing the sport, especially during times of need, and his unwavering support for women’s cycling and equal opportunities have been amazing.”
The ProVelo Super League will launch during the Australian summer of cycling in Adelaide in January 2025 and will incorporate some of Australia’s oldest events and include newly created events that will be broadcast nationally.
More details on the League including the 2025 calendar will be announced in the coming weeks.
