Katelyn Nicholson Completes Giro Debut After Signing with Team Mendelspeck E-Work

Reigning Oceania Champion and rising Australian talent Katelyn Nicholson has taken a major leap in her cycling career, signing with Team Mendelspeck E-Work for her debut at the prestigious Giro d’Italia Women.
Nicholson’s journey has been powered by her standout performances on the domestic scene, particularly during her time with Butterfields Ziptrak in the ProVelo Super League. Her success in the league was matched by her dominance at the Oceania Championships earlier this year, where she claimed the elite women’s title, confirming her place among the region’s top talents.
“Teams like Butterfields Ziptrak provide the platform for riders like myself to be able to race in the PSL,” Nicholson said. “I then had the opportunity to race as part of a team and learn the skills of racing as part of that team.”
The PSL pathway assisted in accelerating Nicholson’s development and visibility. Competing in high-calibre races on home soil gave her the platform to showcase her potential and gain valuable race experience against both domestic and international opposition. Her results didn’t go unnoticed, with the European-based Team Mendelspeck E-Work offering her a contract following standout performances earlier this year.
“Winning the Women’s Warrnambool was a huge step towards Europe for me,” Nicholson said. “Races like that and Grafton to Inverell are highly attritional, long, and provide an ideal race simulation for Europe where the length and difficulty is high.”
She recently took on one of the toughest tests in professional cycling, the Giro Women’s stage race. The mountainous terrain and intense pace of the European peloton were no small task, but Katelyn embraced the challenge.
“The PSL gave me the environment to grow as a rider and gain exposure that opened doors to Europe,” Nicholson shared. “It was surreal to be lining up at the Giro. I’m proud of where I’ve come from and grateful for the people who’ve backed me.”
Her journey reflects the very mission of the ProVelo Super League - to provide a world-class platform that connects Australian cyclists to the global stage. Nicholson now joins a growing list of PSL alumni making waves internationally, inspiring the next generation of riders chasing their dreams.
As she continues this exciting new chapter, the entire PSL community is cheering her on - not just as a competitor, but as a shining example of the pathway working as intended.
It’s a remarkable moment in what has already been a breakout year for Nicholson, a rider whose quiet determination and consistent performance have fast-tracked her onto the international stage.
