Tour of Tasmania | Stage 1 | SBS Women's League
Keely Bennett (Meridian Blue Cycling p/b 99 Bikes) secured a stunning victory in the opening stage of the Tour of Tasmania in Devonport, off the back of a well-executed team strategy.
The Meridian Blue squad focused solely on supporting Bennett for the final sprint, conserving their resources for the final lap. Alyssa Polites led into the final corner with Bennett tucked in behind and Sophie Marr (Praties Cycling Team) ready to pounce behind. Bennett opened up her sprint around the final corner, Marr challenged, but couldn’t come around.
Alli Anderson (Butterfields Ziptrak Racing) took third place, securing 4 bonus seconds, an important move that could have implications for the overall general classification as the race unfolds.
