ProVelo Super League (PSL), is excited to confirm that the Squadron Energy Grafton to Inverell, Northern NSW one-day classic will feature on the PSL calendar on 15th and 16th of March, 2025.

Since its 1961 debut, pioneered by Inverell resident, Harold Strahley, the iconic race has developed a reputation as one of the toughest on the Australian road race calendar. Truly hitting the world stage in the 1980’s, it was the international teams that reigned supreme. The event will remain a major highlight for local riders and spectators, exhibiting some of the best cycling in the country.

Matt Wilson Co-Founder of the PSL welcomed the Squadron Energy Grafton to Inverell to the PSL Calendar “these one day classics are an integral part of the Australian road racing pathway and steeped in history.   To include the Squadron Energy Grafton to Inverell in our inaugural season calendar is a great privilege and we’re really looking forward to bringing the PSL to the region and seeing how our teams and riders fare on this gruelling course”

G2I Event Director, Chris Thompson added “We are very excited to be a part of the ProVelo Super League next year. The Squadron Energy Grafton to Inverell is an iconic race on the Australian cycling calendar that has enjoyed a long and successful history. The list of winners and participants boasts many riders who have Olympic Games and Tour de France success. It has continued to be an important event in the development pathway for many of Australia’s aspiring cyclists. It is fitting that it will feature as a key event in a league that aims to raise the profile of cycling in Australia.

The Grafton to Inverell has the reputation as the toughest one day cycling race in the country. At 228km with 3382m of climbing, including the formidable 17km climb of the Gibraltar Range, it takes riders through the beautiful Clarence Valley and New England Highlands of northern NSW. The race is brutally hard, and history has shown that you can never predict what is going to happen. The race has been won in several different scenarios over the years that have been dictated by the diverse race tactics and environmental conditions facing the riders over the epic 228km journey.

Spectators can enjoy the atmosphere of the event at the finish line in Victoria Park, Inverell with live radio race commentary and the culinary treats of a Multi-Cultural Food Festival while they cheer on the warriors of the day down the finish straight.”
