It was a big weekend for the climbers in Tasmania, and after 4 thrilling stages we have two new League leaders who will each don the jersey for first time in their careers this weekend.

SBS Women’s League

With Odette Lynch (Butterfields Ziptrak Racing), the League leader after round 1, not attending the Tour of Tasmania the door was open for Team Redcat’s Sophia Sammons to find clean air and start her bid for the overall PSL title in earnest.

It wasn’t without its challenges, but after a dominant performance throughout the tour, Sammons managed to seal the deal in Launceston, earning the first League leaders jersey of her career.

Redcat teammate Ruby Taylor has also moved up in the standings, propelling to third in the standings after top and tailing the tour with stage wins on stages 1 and 4.

Lynch dropepd down into second, but with an expected return at this weekends Lochard Energy Women’s Warrnambool Classic, she’ll want to make an impression.

There are plenty of riders nipping at their heels, and after seeing all three podium getters from last year PSL season, all of the top three spots will no doubt be hotly contested.

Let’s Go Motorhomes Men’s League

The battle for the overall title in the Men’s league is heating up with a number of the big contenders making their intentions to fight for the title clear. Team Brennan_ led after round 1 with Conor Leahy, but with such a mountainous tour ahead he had his work cut out for him if he wanted to hold onto it.

Leahy’s Brennan_ teammate Levi Hone was hoping to move up the standings, as was VIS p/b K.O.M.P rider Julian Baudry. Each of these riders are known to excel on the climbs and were the top two highest placed climbers after round 1 in Adelaide.

After sealing the GC, Hone steps into the jersey and with an immensely strong team around him he may prove tough to beat. Just behind in second is Falcons Pedal Mafia’s Connor Wright, but his main competition may come from teammate Oliver Bleddyn, the Olympic gold medallist from Paris showing some serious climbing form, appearing the strongest in the field all weekend.

If history is our guide, we know that anything can happen each round and fortunes can turn quickly. The men’s League is stacked with talent waiting to strike should any sign of weakness be shown.
