Is Jack Ward running away with the U23 league, or can Team Brennan’s dominance be challenged as the ProVelo Super League heats up after Round 2?

SumUp Men’s League Overview

Has Jack Ward run away with the u23 league win already? Is Team Brennan unstoppable?

Following Round 2 of the ProVelo Super League, we have seen some shake-ups in the League’s overall standings that give us insight into who we might see taking the top steps of the podium come the end of March.

In the SumUp Men’s league, Blake Agnoletto has stepped into the lead ahead of his team-mate Jack Ward, who leads the U23 classification. Team Brennan occupy the top three spaces on the League leaderboard currently with Agnoletto (200), Ward (176) and SA-Kick It winner Brendon Davids (166) in a commanding position.

On the road to the World Tour, the riders vying for the U23 classification will have their eyes set firmly on Jack Ward. Ward leads Hamish McKenzie (94), team-mate and u23 national road champion Julian Baudry (69), and CCACHE X BODYWRAP’s Jack Dohler (54). While any of these riders could challenge for the overall win, it is Zac Marriage (Butterfields Ziptrak) who is emerging as Ward’s main contender.

Currently in 5th on 53 points, Marriage is well placed to make up some ground over the coming rounds. After completing the opening two stages, Marriage missed out on collecting GC points at the SA-Kick It while racing for the national team at the Tour Down Under, and he has shown great form in Round 2 at the Melbourne to Warrnambool. With the series only two rounds in and Ward potentially missing the Grafton to Inverell should he decide to race the XCO Mountain Bike National Championships on the same weekend, Marriage is still well within striking distance.

The Tour of Tasmania will be a crucial battleground, with both riders arriving on their favoured terrain and with strong teams around them. While the points gap may appear wide, it can quickly close under the right circumstances. The battle for the Jayco AlUla contract is still very much up in the air.
