Team Brennan_’s (not so) secret weapon

Let the sprint battles begin!

The sprint battles are a fascinating thing in the ProVelo Super League, and in my opinion one of the most interesting dynamics throughout the season. There are many fast finishers in the field, and with a sprint being one of the more unpredictable disciplines within road cycling we often see many riders looking to throw their hat in the ring should a sprint be put on the table.

Finding your way to the front can be hard enough, let alone getting there in a position to launch an effective sprint. Many riders come in with one half of the equation, they can get to the front when it matters but don’t have the kick required to compete, or they have more than enough punch but can’t find the front at the crucial moment.

Into the PSL steps Tom Cornish, this year joining the Team Brennan_ squad. Coming off the back of a successful track sprinting career, Cornish has turned his attention to the road, at least for now. There is no doubt whatsoever that if Cornish can get near the finish at the front he is the favourite for the sprint. The question we were all asking was can he get there with gas in the tank. His criterium in Adelaide gave us the answer, a resounding yes, which bodes well for his ambitions this season.

The rest of the field though, they’re going to have their work cut out for them. With Cornish in the mix, I expect we will see some more aggressive racing in the criteriums as teams will look to put him and his and Brennan_ squad on the back foot. It’s their only hope.
