Phil Bates AM, a 2025 AusCycling Hall of Fame inductee, has dedicated more than five decades to the sport through his work with St George Cycling Club.
He was the founder and director of the Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic, staged from 1982 to 2000. The race brought international riders to Australia and helped elevate the profile of Australian cycling, giving local riders valuable exposure on the world stage.
